Carvins Cove Natural Reserve is a 6,843-acre nature reserve located in the Appalachian Mountains of Roanoke, Virginia. It was established in 1974 to protect the watershed of the Roanoke River and is Virginia’s second largest freshwater reservoir. It provides drinking water for the city of Roanoke and the surrounding area.
It is home to a variety of ecosystems, including forests, streams, and wetlands. Here you’ll find a wide variety of plant and animal life, including over 200 species of birds.
The reserve offers over 50 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Fish lovers will enjoy a variety of fishing opportunities, including bass, catfish, and trout. Carvins Cove is also a popular destination for picnicking and camping.
