Sand Cave and White Rocks are two of the most popular hiking destinations in Virginia. Located in the George Washington National Forest, these two trails offer stunning views of the Shenandoah Valley and the Appalachian Mountains.
Sand Cave is a moderate hike that is about 1.5 miles long round trip. The trailhead is located off of Skyline Drive near mile marker 99. The trail winds through a forest of tall pines and rhododendron before reaching the cave. The cave itself is a large sandstone formation that is about 50 feet wide and 30 feet tall.
White Rocks is a more difficult hike that is about 4 miles long round trip. The trailhead is located off of Skyline Drive near mile marker 105. The trail climbs up a steep hillside before reaching the White Rocks overlook. This overlook offers stunning views of the Shenandoah Valley and the Appalachian Mountains.
