History
The mountain has a long and storied history. It was named for the huge outcropping of naked rock near its summit, which resembles a human head. Native Americans used the rock outcropping as a lookout point, and it was also used as a signal station during the American Civil War. Today, the rock outcropping is a popular spot for picnics and for viewing the sunset.
